Translation: Schrottgrenze started as just another Deutschpunk band but they had a sense for good melodies. You can hear it in the track “Vorstadtpunkermädchen” which I extended with some hidden track from their CD “Reibung, Baby”. Today the are beyond generic punk.

I'd say there's more Deutsch-punk-reggae than what you say... er... African Reggae by the so called «Queen of punk»... not accepted? well... No, now serious, what about this Berlin band called IXTOC-1? They have a great dub track in the Weird System comp "Wenn alles kaputt dan wir Spaß". The track is called "Leben" and comes from a 12", "Gut ist was modern ist" (82). (I haven't heard anything else from them)
The Neurotic Arseholes had this one, "Man in the box", reggae parts & punk parts (like some of those Slime experiments), not very convincing. I think there's more but needs researching... But, anyway, there's some logics to it: the "good times" of the punk-reggae crossover were in 77-80 (Clash, SLF, Ruts...) but in Germany in those years there wasn't so much punk. You had this great post precisely about that (was it the Der Plan one? Or the Mittagspause one? ...). When the punk hordes came circa 81-82 it was another era and the crossover wasn't very fashionable any more (do Discharge or GBH or the Kennedys have any reggae song? haha) So that's my "Spekulation über die Gründe"...

Grüsse (& I still love you for the SYPH post!)

I forgot, Male were pioneers, check "Zensur dub" from their LP. On the other hand, I didn't realise that you meant Slime's recent remixes, not their old attempts at playing some reggae...
