Summary: If you are interested in punk and instrumental music there is no way to ignore SST Records from Lawndale California, home of Black Flag (check out their "The Process of Weeding Out"-12" which must have annoyed 99% of all previous Black Flag listeners), Minutemen und Hüsker Dü (check out "Reoccurring Dreams" from the "Zen Arcade" double album), but they also released stuff by Henry Kaiser, Sonic Youth, Blind Idiot God, Lawndale just to mention a few. Anyway in 1987 they compiled some instrumental tracks from previous releases for the double album "No Age". It's a wild journey through various styles of music and an eye opener for those who think music without lyrics is a waste of time and they all sound the same like "Cry like a shadow" and "Flying" by the Beatles. The tracks range from ugly prog-rock to aggressive free-form punk to atmospheric soundscapes and of course some surf, some tracks fully arranged and some completely improvised. By the way, has anybody already posted the "Tellus #10: All Guitars!"-MC or the "guitarrorists" double album? Some instrumental gems can also be found on the "Everything you always wanted to know about 60's mind expansive garage rock instrumentals but were afraid to ask"-cd though I'm not a big friend of Rock'n'Roll instrumental music as they rarely get beyond that same old boring Blues song scheme like G G G G C C G G D C G G. And avoid listening to the albums released by No Speak-Records, the ones I know are disappointing, especially the one by Wishbone Ash. And thanks to Lucky from

summary: i thanked martinf for his wonderful statements on this brilliant post - not because i provided the file, but because i enjoyed reading it!
and btw - it's great to see a multilingual blog (german/english) - without much borders in the picking of music...
hands up for martinf!
lucky
btw - just posted 2 compilations in a somewhat similar vein, although not entirely instrumental:
shimmy discs first release 'the 20th anniversary of the summer of love', and elliot sharps much more avantgarde-sampler 'island of sanity' - the title says it all - sanity, ha!
einen schönen sonntag dir, martinf - bin nächste woche zu eingespannt in 'anderer' arbeit, als dass ich gross ans bloggen denken kann - but it sure will help me to stay sane!
