Portsmouth Sinfonia - Plays The Popular Classics

Klasse! Portsmouth Sinfonia - Plays The Popular Classics (1974) From Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 (Grieg) / From The Nutcracker Suite (Tchaikovsky) / 5th Symphony in C Minor, Op. 67 (Beethoven) / William Tell Overture (Rossini) // Also sprach Zarathustra Op. 31 (excerpt) (Richard Strauss) / Blue Danube Waltz, Op. 314 (Johann Strauss) / Air from Suite No. 3 in D Minor (J. S. Bach) / Farandole from L'Arlesienne Suite No. 2 (Bizet) / Jupiter from The Planets, Op. 32 (excerpt) (Holst) Conductor - John Farley / Clarinet, Producer - Brian Eno (download) Some kind of translation: Thanks to vespucci I am able to present you The Portsmouth Sinfonia! If you don’t know who they where check out wikipedia. And I promise you to return and download every single note today and for the next three days (unless you prefer to listen to Karajan or Death Metal and have no humor).

There are some things to add, I think:
The Portsmouth Sinfonia was an idea of the composer Gavin Briars and there were some professional musicians involved, the most prominent ones probably Brian Eno and Steves Beresford. However those people had to pick up an instrument they never played before - in Eno's case actuallly the clarinet. It is also to note that the whole orchestra was forbidden to intentionally play bad. One wouldn't guess so, listening to the nevertheless horrible results... ;-)

Well, this is not my rip. All thanks go actually to the people who provided the Sinfonia stuff before and kept it floating around. Unfortunately none of the PS releases are in print, and all the old albums obviously became pretty expensive collectors items.
